Scientifically, this mushroom is known as Lentinula edodes.

The Japanese name for it is Shiitake. Shii - is the name of the tree it grew on and take, means mushroom in Japanese.

Shiitake mushrooms contain many beneficial compounds and nutrients such as:

Vitamins B and D, as well as antioxidants and polysaccharides.

Shiitake mushrooms also contain eritadenine, which is a compound known to reduce cholesterol levels in blood.

Gaining access to these beneficial compounds through the mushroom's tough walls a dual extraction process is required which consists of hot water extraction and pharmaceutical grade alcohol extraction.

Add 1/4-1/2 a teaspoon into any hot or cold drink such as tea, coffee, smoothie, cordial, hot chocolate etc. Or you can sprinkle over your morning cereal, mix into yogurt or sprinkle over your meal. It's all about getting it in you which ever way is best!
